Kanha National Park in India is one of the top places for spotting tigers. The park has various sectors, each with its own unique landscape and wildlife. The Royal Bengal Tiger, Kanha’s top sight is most desired to be seen by visitors. Night safaris as well as bird watching are also conducted along with jeep safaris and walking safaris done at Kanha.

Tiger Safaris Core Zones in Kanha

Here are three of the best core zones for tiger safaris in Kanha

Mukki Zone

This area is said to be the most popular zone for viewing tigers. It contains a mixture of open meadows, grasslands, and thick jungles that provide enough preys and covers for the tigers.

It also has numerous water holes which attract these animals between October to June when there are drought like conditions.

Kanha Zone

This part of the park is priced higher than others hence tourists need to pay an additional fee before entering it. Besides being very beautiful among all other parts of the park, this zone offers captivating viewpoints over Banjar River Valley.

In this area alone there are diverse types of wildlife such as leopards, sloth bears, spotted deer etc. Like other areas within Kanha, this park is closed during monsoons (July-September) due to heavy rains making tracks waterlogged.

Kisli Zone

This place is next to Kanha Zone and shares the same type of habitat. It is ideal for visitors who want a little less crowded safari.

Kisli offers amazing tiger views as well as glimpses of other wildlife such as chital, sambar and barking deer. In the dry season the weather is fine with mild temperatures and clear skies making it perfect for wildlife viewing.

Khatia buffer zone

This zone borders the western region near Khatia village. While considered a buffer zone, Khatia offers a good alternative for spotting tigers, especially for those who are unable to secure permits for the core zones (Kanha, Mukki, Sarhi & Kisli).

It is a more affordable option compared to core zone safaris. Tigers, leopards, barasingha, chital, sambar deer, wild boars, and birds like peacocks and owls have been spotted in Khatia zone.
